Americas Latino Eco Festival Portrait Series

 

Back in October I had the opportunity to photograph a series of portraits for the Americas Latino Eco Festival (ALEF). The portraits are of the speakers of the festival. They are a mix of local Denver artists, ALEF board members, and environmentalist national personalities.

Every single person was delightful and brilliant. I feel extremely honored for the opportunity to create a portrait of each of these remarkable individuals.

Lenny Jonas Portraits - { Denver Portrait Photography }

I had the opportunity to shoot Lenny a few weeks ago. He contacted me because I had the pleasure of making his daughter's senior portraits, and he remembered he liked my work!

He is a veterinarian, he wanted pictures for marketing and also to share with his family. All these pictures are in his house, how cool is that, no need to go to a park when you have a beautiful home or backyard. The pictures are all directed natural light (aka: my assistant holding a silver reflector), and with post-production in Lightroom.

I loved photographing him! Here are a few of his favorites.

Photographing Gloria Steinem { Denver Portrait Photographer }

Back in 2013 my friend Roweena Naidoo, who is the founder of The Blossom Project, an organization that works to amplify the voices of girls, inspiring them to disrupt the status quo and make a positive difference in the world, called me to booked me for an event she had in March 2014. I told her that, of course I was available, it was a year out, so I put it in my calendar. 

The closer the date got, she told me that Gloria Steinem was going to be her keynote speaker, and I got really excited, I mean with all the amazing things she has done to move women forward I was ecstatic! My excitement took over and I asked Roweena if I could have 15 minutes with her so I could do a portrait, and she said yes!

The day of the event came and I had my set up ready to go, and I was thinking about what to tell her when she finally came to the door for the portrait. Things ran a little late and I only got 3 minutes and 45 seconds to talk to Gloria, make her comfortable, and do the portrait. With the time limitation I got a little nervous and the only thing I said was, "two of my idols did your portrait and now I get to photograph you" while my friend/assistant yelled "no pressure!" I did the portrait in that limited time with a room fool of people waiting to talk and take "selfies" with her, I kept calm and took my portrait and then we went on with the VIP reception and the event.

She was obviously amazing, poised and perfect. She has done this a million times so the shoot went great. I am pleased with the result and the fact that it was done right around her 80th birthday makes it more meaningful.

Love is Love Portraits Project!

Yay, Yay, Yay! As I said in my New Year's message I have a few projects on the works, the first one that is ready to share is a project very dear to my heart that I called "Love is Love, a portrait project." With these portraits I am looking to illustrate that love is love regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, nationality, backgrounds, etc. I asked several couples that are close to me to pose for me, I will be sharing a set of portraits every week, sometimes it will be one photo, sometimes there would be three, it would depend simply on what the pictures are telling me. 

I opened a new blog on Tumblr dedicated to this project, little by little you will see the progress. The portraits will be paired with a little caption about the couple, and answers to questions I asked, sometimes it will be the same questions, sometimes different, again, the pictures will tell me what to do.

Lighting a world of possibilities! { Denver Portrait Photographer }

I just got back from Santa Fe, NM.  I took a week long workshop named "Small Strobes, Big Results" instructed by David Tejada and it is offered by Santa Fe Workshops.  There were other workshops at the same time as ours, and they range from Advanced Photoshop to Cultural and Documentary photography.  The experience was more than I could hope for, and I feel revitalized and more creative than ever.  Here are a few of my favorite shots.  Let me know what you think.

Red { Denver Portrait Photographer }

I've been wanting to do a formal dress shoot for a while.  The perfect opportunity presented itself, and it started snowing, making it even better!  Check out the best photos from this shoot!

I've been wanting to do a fantasy photoshoot for a while now.  I was lucky enough that my friend Bernie who is  a make-up artist, and my model Meagan, were more than happy to participate!
